Decorating Easter eggs - Easter Egg Decoration in Dobrovnik

traditions and customs

Dobrovnik

Remenke or remenice are decorated Easter eggs. The widely known traditional technique of egg decoration called batik (with wax and paint) is characteristic for Ravensko and Dólinsko. The basis for decoration is blown eggs. Remenke are made and exhibited during the Easter holidays, and as souvenirs for tourists throughout the year.
The batik technique started dying out in the 1960s, but was revived in 1998 when they started the exhibition of remenke in Dobrovnik, made using the batik technique. Most women skilled in the technique come from Dobrovnik and the surrounding area.
