1916-1918

paper, fabric

Military souvenirs, the kind that made possible to affix their military photos, were popular among the soldiers. During World War I, their popularity continued to grow; they were made of different materials and shapes, with captions, pictures. They were available in bookstores and shops. What they had in common was that the soldiers could stick their photos to them. The souvenir of Čentiba depicts the four leaders of the central powers during World War I: Franz Joseph II William I Bulgarian Prince Ferdinand and Mehmed V. The soldier's photo is missing. Above is Mary with the baby, bearing the caption “Oh, Virgin Mary”, and below there is another caption: “Let's Pray for Our Soldiers”.
