Stefan Kovač was born on August 28, 1910 in Nedelica. Before World War II he was the leader of the Slovenian Communist Party in Prekmurje. After the Hungarian occupation of the Prekmurje in April 1941, he became the leader of the Prekmurje Resistance Movement, which was established in 1941 in Prekmurje Region and carried out smaller actions. Kovač played a multifaceted role in the resistance movement. In addition to leading and organizing the Resistance Movement, he propagated leaflets and took part in field operations. On October 18, 1941, due to treason, he was killed in a raid by the Hungarian police in the forest near Gančani.
