Whenever the Mura River flooded, it carried away the mills and the boats, and the river flooded the fields and houses while creating a new bed for itself. These were the times when büjranje (dam repair, dam building) was needed along the river – by reinforcing the river bed, and building dams to withhold the water. The büjra men traveled on the river in šejfis (13 m long transport boats), which also carried support materials. The purpose of the büjraš (bed stabilizer) structures was to form and strengthen the banks of the River Mura and to regulate the river.
