Kálmán Széll Castle in Rátót

1890

The castle was rebuilt in 1890 by Kálmán Széll, the 12th Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Hungary, based on the plans by Alajos Hauszmann, from a one-story manor house to an 18-room building. After World War II, the castle’s furnishings and library were stolen. The building housed a machine station, then a cultural center and a school. Since 2011, it has been a hotel.

Specialist description

A kastély parkjában Deák Ferenc 13 fát ültetett az aradi vértanúk emlékére. 1868 és 1875 között a nyarat itt töltötte Rátóton. Széll Kálmán feleségének, Vörösmarty Ilonának gyámja volt.
