The Gornji Slaveči Lutheran parish was founded in 1918. Then the efforts to build a church began. The plans for the church were completed in 1926 by the architect Ivo Spinčič. In the following year, on June 29, 1927, the foundation stone was laid. With the help of foreign donors, on October 28, 1929 the bishop dr. Filip Popp, the pastors Leopold Hari and Aleksander Skalič handed over the church. On this occasion the sermon was given in Croatian, German and Hungarian language. Karel Kovač was the Lutheran pastor of the settlement and he played a major role in the construction of the church.
