Štefan Selmar (István Szelmár) was a Roman Catholic priest and writer from Prekmurje, born on October 23, 1820 in Grad. He completed his theological studies in Szombathely and was ordained on July 20, 1845. He first served as a chaplain in Črenšovci and Turnišče. From 1860 to 1876 he was the leader of the parish in Kančevci. After retirement, he lived in Ivanovci, until his death. He died on February 15, 1877, at the age of 56, of tuberculosis. His best-known work was published in 1880 under the title “Zgodbe sztároga i nóvoga zakona za sólszko detczo”. The volume contained Bible stories for children by Alajos Róder translated from Hungarian into Prekmurje dialect.
