One of the largest prison camps of the First World War in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was located here (1915-1918).
The “barrack town” of 40-50,000 Serbian, Italian, Russian and Romanian prisoners of war has since disappeared without a trace, and is replaced by a forest. The memory of the camp's prisoners is preserved in the former cemetery. From the ornate iron gate, there is a straight path to the central obelisk on a small mound.
Gravel roads lead to parcels of certain nations marked with obelisks. On the green lawn and between the evergreens there are the memorial stones, marked with a military badge and an identification number, made mostly by stonemason Hudetz of Szombathely.
