The mountain laws included feudal obligations, instructions on the time, manner, technique and organization of the annual vineyard work, as well as measures to maintain the vineyard and its accessories, crop safety, and the ethics of economic and social behavior on the mountain. The articles were based on the relative independence of the vineyard, in the main points they were similar throughout the country but showed a great deal of variations in details.

Vas megyében a többihez képest későn intézkedtek a hegytörvények egységesítéséről: 1816-ban határoztak a meglevő szokásjog összegyűjtéséről, és 1820. januárjában is még csak a tervezet készült el. Ennek a késlekedésnek köszönhetjük, hogy fennmaradtak a régi artikulusok, míg más megyékben, pl. Zalában, miután az egységes szabályozást követően a helyiek fölöslegessé váltak, meg is semmisítették őket.
