The Lendava Umbrella Factory was officially established on September 27, 1904 from Béla Wortman's sewing company under the name “Hungária Hazai Ernyőgyár”, the first umbrella factory of the Monarchy. At the end of the war, the factory was renamed to Ernyőgyár (Umbrella Factory). During WWII, it regained its original name. Towards the end of the war, the machines were moved to the nearby warehouses and the factory was completely looted. On June 20, 1947, the production work began again. In 1955 the plant was named Štefan Kovač National Hero Lendava Umbrella Factory, and in 1959 it became Indip – umbrella and knitwear factory. In 2001, the company filed for bankruptcy.
