Objects from the graves of Soviet soldiers

1945

In the spring of 1945, four divisions of the Red Army moved through Prekmurje. The first troops came to Prekmurje on 1st of April and, together with the soldiers of Prekmurske čete, freed Murska Sobota and established a military base. On the 4th of April, they freed Lendava. In the battle with the Germans by the rivers Mura and Kučnica, 521 Red Army soldiers fell. In 1962, their remains were moved from their temporary graves to the common graves at the cemetery in M. Sobota, the personal objects that were found are a part of the collection in the Pomurje Museum.
In 1945, in memory of the fallen Soviet soldiers and partisans, the Victory monument (Spomenik zmage) was erected in M. Sobota.

Specialist description: Borci sovjetske Rdeče armade iz sestava III. ukrajinske fronte so jeseni 1944 zasedli vzhodno Madžarsko in sodelovali pri osvobajanju Beograda. Po bojih ob Blatnem jezeru se je 57. armada pod poveljstvom generala Šarohina usmerili proti Avstriji. V njenem sestavu je bila tudi I. bolgarska armada. V Prekmurju so delovale 61.,73.,84. in 113 pehotna divizija. Padle vojake so začasno pokopali v vaseh, kjer so padli, njihove ostanke pa naj bi prenesli v Spomenik zmage v Murski Soboti, ki je bil zgrajen kot grobnica. Leta 1962 so jih pokopali v grobnicah na pokopališču. V zbirki predmetov iz grobov so različni osebni predmeti vojakov: vojaški jedilni pribor, odlikovanja, očala, barvice, škatle za cigarete in drugi.
