Frideczky György

parish priest, prayer book writer

Born in Vál, graduated in Zagreb in theology, Frideczky served in the Zagreb diocese until 1849. From March 1848 to August 13, 1849 he was a pastor of the Sándor Infantry Regiment, and until October 1850 he was a pastor of the Graz Military Hospital. Then he came to the Diocese of Szombathely: From 1860 until his death he was the parish priest of Nagynarda. He compiled a Croatian-language prayer book called “Guardian Angel” for children. From 1874 he was a school inspector in the Rohonc region. The main building outbuildings of the Narda parish were built in his time. In 1848 he donated a Freedom Fighter flag to the Vas County Archaeological Association. His grave is in the Narda Cemetery.

Biography

A Válon született, Zágrábban teológiai végzettséget szerző Frideczky 1849-ig a zágrábi egyházmegyében szolgált. 1848. márciusától 1849. augusztus 13-ig a Sándor gyalogezred lelkésze volt, majd 1850 októberéig a gráci katonai kórházban lelkészkedett. Azután került a szombathelyi egyházmegyébe. 1860-tól halálig Nagynarda plébánosaként szolgált. Gyerekeknek állította össze az „Őrangyal” című, horvát nyelvű imakönyvet: bár plébániáján a horvátok sto-nyelvjárást beszélnek, ő a szemináriumban tanult káj-horvát nyelven írta meg. 1874-től ő volt a rohonci tankerület tanfelügyelője. Kiadott egy horvát-magyar nyelvtant is, de ennek – egyelőre – nem ismertek ránk maradt példányai. A nardai plébánia épületének és gazdasági épületének felépítése ő idejében történt. A 107. gyalogezred 1848-as szabadságharcos zászlaját a Vasmegyei Régészeti Egyletnek adományozta. Sírját a nardai temetőben gondozzák a hívek és az egyházközség.
