Master’s mark

Master’s mark

Unknown

1877-1927

Master mark or guild sign of the millers. On both sides there is an inscription: “Slavno društvo mlinarsko 1877-1927”. The glass cabinet has a mill-wheel, which is a master’s mark of millers. In 1777, Empress Maria Theresa laid down the duties and privileges of the guilds in Prekmurje. In the same year, an association of blacksmiths, locksmiths, strap-makers, craftsmen, and millers was established in Beltinci Parish. The guild sign bears evidence of the miller guild, which probably operated between 1877 and 1927. The guilds of Beltinci Parish have always been linked together by professional, craft-related and socio-charitable activities, and, more recently, by religion.
